Does Trump Have ‘Something On’ Judge Overseeing Mar-a-Lago Documents Case? Experts Are Baffled

Former POTUS Donald Trump scored a stunning legal victory in court, leaving experts baffled.

Judge Aileen Cannon overruled the special master that she appointed to review documents seized from Mar-a-Lago, protecting Trump from having to prove a significant assertion he made about the FBI.

Trump accused the FBI of “planting” documents, and Cannon made it so that he no longer has to prove that assertion. In addition, Cannon extended the timeline for the review, which means it could stretch well into next year.

Cannon was first appointed by Trump and was the one to appoint special master Judge Raymond Dearie.

Legal experts have been stunned by the new orders, wondering why she granted the Trump team’s legal request for a special master to start with since she’s overruled him multiple times now.

Former US Attorney Joyce Vance wrote on Twitter, “If Judge Cannon was going to continue calling every ball in Trump’s favor, I’m not at all sure why she felt the need to appoint a special master to review the documents the government seized from Mar-a-Lago. No real surprises here. The name of the game is delay. Judge Cannon countermanded Judge Dearie’s streamlined schedule & helped Trump advance his usual delay game in litigations. That means it could be late December before DOJ can use documents it recovered from Mar-a-Lago.”

This isn’t the first time Cannon has stunned experts by siding with Trump against expectations, but many are starting to wonder exactly why she’s putting her legal reputation on the line. Former Federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann said of the new orders, “What does Donald Trump have on Judge Cannon or her husband? Something is SO off in her decisions (and the court of appeals said as much) that it is impossible not to ask this question in all seriousness.”
