Hero Vegas Oncologist Nicholas Vogelzang Dies at 72, Leaving Behind Legacy of Caring and Saved Lives

A Las Vegas hero has died.

Beloved oncologist Dr. Nicholas J Vogelzang died this week at the age of 72, with no cause of death shared.

World-renowned for his skill and expertise, Vogelzang wasn’t just a doctor – he was a person who cared deeply about the patients he treated and was known to hand out his personal cell number to make sure they could reach him at any point for any reason.

His extraordinary professional achievements include bringing a revolutionary treatment known as 177Lu-PSMA-617 to Las Vegas to help those with late-stage prostatic cancer.

In a 2017 Las Vegas Review-Journal story, Vogelzang patients shared memories of how he went above and beyond to help them. One patient recounted how he called at 10 PM to inform her that there was a treatment they could try for her cancer; others recounted similar stories and shared how they could call him on nights and weekends. The patient who shared her story of a 10 PM call told the LVRJ, “That’s the kind of doctor he is. He really cares. He gave out his cell phone and personal email and told me to contact him whenever I felt I needed to. What other doctor does that?”

An incredibly skilled expert in his field, Vogelzang was also a gentle and reassuring presence at the bedside of his patients, ensuring they felt confident in their options.

His loss is extraordinary – not just for his family and friends, but for his patients, the oncology community, and the world as a whole.
