Deadmau5 On DJ’s Playing A Pre-Recorded Set At Festivals

“You know what a dead giveaway to a pre-recorded set is? The visuals,” says deadmau5. The DJ continued, “When sh*t is so immaculately timed that everything is f**king lining up, that means it’s on a playback system.”

deadmau5 responded to comments and questions from fans and put reality into perspective for many festivalgoers. One fan wrote in the chat, “DJs who play pre-recorded sets are not real DJs.” deadmau5, born Joel Thomas Zimmerman, responded with sarcasm, “Who are you the f**king DJ police?” Zimmerman carried on to explain the truth of how it goes down for a DJ performing at a festival.

“Most major festivals you have to play pre-recorded sets,” says Zimmerman. Explaining, “Like EDC, I would be surprised if someone actually played a set that wasn’t pre-recorded, to be honest. Because, they’re such a big deal to the f**king artist, and the production schedule, and the timeline, and all that stuff that they wouldn’t wanna f**k up.”

Following the Canadian DJ’s explanation, another fan asked, “What do they do up there? Twittle, f**king around and clap?” To which Zimmerman responded, “Yes, absolutely. That’s all you can do.”
