Columbia University is First Ivy League School to Ditch SAT/ACT

Columbia University has announced that they will no longer require undergraduate applicants to submit SAT or ACT scores.

That makes Columbia the first Ivy League school to turn to a test-optional approach to admissions.

They’re joining a rapidly growing number of colleges and universities that have stepped away from requiring test scores.

Columbia shared in an announcement this week, “Our review is purposeful and nuanced – respecting varied backgrounds, voices and experiences – in order to best determine an applicant’s suitability for admission and ability to thrive in our curriculum and our community, and to advance access to our educational opportunities.”

The university says that their decision was “rooted in the belief that students are dynamic, multi-faceted individuals who cannot be defined by any single factor.”
