Chef Cuso Exposes Salt Bae’s Scammy Gold Tomahawk Steak

Chef Jack Mancuso is taking on Salt Bae’s famed gold-leaf tomahawk steak and showing just how grossly overpriced it is.

The steak, which runs about $2,000 at Salt Bae’s Nusr-Et restaurant, is a giant 38-oz tomahawk cut with 24-karat gold leaf.

But that markup is insane, as Chef Cuso exposed on TikTok.

Mancuso smoked a tomahawk steak on the grill before searing it on a griddle, then pulled out $45 worth of gold leaf to give the steak its signature shiny look.

Mancuso then ate the steak and delivered his verdict: it tasted the same as any other tomahawk. It’s good, but not worth 4-figures.

While every restaurant has some markup, $2K for a regular steak with less than $50 of gold leaf is a bit much for even the ostentatious #ClownBae.

If people want to pay for the prestige of eating at the controversy-maker’s restaurant, that’s a reasonable argument.

But in a dollar-for-value analysis: ditch the Scam Bae and make it yourself.
