Carson Wentz Contemplates Life at Salt Creek Beach Today as Commanders Release Quarterback to Save $26M

FACTZ’s Marketing Director was walking his dog at Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point, California when he spotted a former Washington Commanders’ QB, Carson Wentz– on the right, not the lineman on the left.

We say ‘former’ because Wentz was cut from the Commanders today to save $26.176 million on the salary cap. The poor guy didn’t have guaranteed money and still had two years left on his contract.

In the 2016 draft, Carson Wentz was the number 2 overall pick. His best season was in 2017, when he led the Eagles to a 13-3 record. During the playoffs, Wentz was injured and backup quarterback Nick Foles led the team to a Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots.

Carson Wentz struggled in the 2018 and 2019 season, leading to the Eagles missing the playoffs in 2019. The next year, Wentz was benched in favor of rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts. Wentz was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2021. In his first season with the Colts, Wentz showed improvement, he had 27 touchdown passes and 7 interceptions.

Any team can sign Wentz before the start of free agency. There are many landing spots for Wentz and he can possibly serve as a backup role for the Carolina Panthers. His former coach with the Colts, Frank Reich, also his ex-offensive coordinator with the Eagles is now the head coach of the Panthers.

So what does any man do when his world is falling apart? They go to the ocean to smell the open sea and listen to waves crashing. It’s the uncanny symbolism of life.

Best of luck in your forced retirement Mr. Wentz. You are welcome that we captured your lowest moment in real-time.
