Broadcaster Jeff Van Gundy Fired After 16 Years Amidst Wave Of ESPN Layoffs

ESPN has reportedly let go of NBA broadcaster Jeff Van Gundy after 16 seasons with the network.

Van Gundy has been a synonymous part of NBA broadcasts throughout his career, calling nearly 100 NBA Finals games.

While there is rarely universal acclaim for sports broadcasters, it seems that the majority of NBA fans enjoyed Van Gundy’s casual on-air demeanor and quick-witted humor.

It would not be a massive surprise if the rising JJ Redick received a shot at being his broadcast replacement.

Van Gundy is not alone as ESPN is cutting around 20 on-air personalities in an effort to save millions of dollars.

While network mainstays like Stephen A Smith, Scott Van Pelt, and Joe Buck are assumed to be safe, some other notable names may find themselves on the chopping block.

ESPN recently gave a lucrative five-year, $85 million deal to former NFL player turned sports media star Pat McAfee, but the sizable amount of layoffs add a level of uncertainty to the future of content on the network.
