Brittney Griner Sent to Undisclosed Russian Penal Colony

Brittney Griner’s worst fears have come true.

She has officially been transferred to a Russian penal colony, and officials are not releasing which one yet.

The transfer began Friday, a day after US officials last visited with Griner. The move came way ahead of schedule, leaving Griner’s advocates worried. A transfer usually takes weeks or months.

US officials were not even aware she had been moved until Tuesday.

Griner’s family will be wondering where she is for some time. Her lawyers have shared. “Notification is given via official mail and normally takes up to two weeks to be received.”

Russian penal colonies are exactly as grim and terrifying as they sound, and with the added concern that no one who cares for her knows where she is – Griner is facing a nightmare of epic proportions after her August drug charges conviction.
