On Thursday, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned, making her tenure as PM the shortest in the country’s history.

Truss said of her decision, “I recognize, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected. I have spoken to King Charles to notify him I’m resigning as leader of the Conservative Party.”

And now, in a bizarre twist, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to enter the contest to choose a replacement for Truss.

“He’s taking soundings but is said to believe it is a matter of national interest,” The Times’s political editor Steven Swinford said on Twitter.

Johnson resigned earlier this year over allegations of COVID-19 lockdown violations.
