A Las Vegas Metro officer has lost his life in the line of duty under the watch of Sheriff Joe Lombardo. This is the second death this year. 

Officer Truong Thai, a 23-year dedicated member of the force, was fatally shot Thursday morning while attempting to arrest a man behind UNLV on a domestic violence call. Thai was shot in the torso. The suspect was apprehended. Thai later died at Sunrise Hospital.

In December 2020, Metro reported a 26 percent increase in domestic violence. Lombardo said at that time that domestic violence cases are among the most dangerous calls that Metro responds to every day.

Detective Justin Michael Terry was killed in June when a beam fell on his department vehicle.
