Edmonton, Canada, is changing things up for visitors to city pools.

A newly circulated rule allows all people to swim and lounge topless, regardless of gender identity.

The policy has been in place since June 2022 but is just now making the rounds online.

Priya Bhasin-Singh, director of Edmonton’s aquatics and community leisure centers, says the policy aligns with gender identity and expression protections found in the Alberta Human Rights Act.

Bhasin-Singh said in a statement, “We believe our swimming guidelines must not discriminate on the basis of gender and not exclude anyone visiting a city facility.”
