Airbnb Reveals 100 Winners of OMG! Fund Design Contest Celebrating Crazy and Unique Buildings

Most people staying in an Airbnb just want a cheap and convenient place to stay.

But there are some who make it a hobby – finding the most bizarre destinations possible and making that your next vacation.

Airbnb is embracing the unique and has just announced the 100 winners of its OMG! Fund design contest that celebrates the “craziest and most unique” rental concepts submitted across 20 countries.

The contest awards $100K to each design judged by a panel that includes design tastemaker Iris Apfel, Airbnb Superhost Kristie Wolfe, architect Koichi Takada and the company’s VP of Experiential Bruce Vaughn.

Winning designs included a flower-pot-shaped building with cascading greenery, a pig-shaped hobbit home, a cereal box with top flaps made from solar panels, a Swedish lighthouse, and a triceratops head jutting from the desert floor.

Entries included 1,214 treehouses, 389 suspended structures, and 509 mushroom-shaped designs. Sustainability was considered in the judging as well as “novel ways of offering immersive guest experience.”
