Trump Really Thought He Could Trade Puerto Rico for Greenland

In the bizarroland world of Donald Trump’s mind, all deals are possible.

It doesn’t matter if something actually belongs to you, you can trade it for something else you want.

Former POTUS Trump was reportedly obsessed with Greenland. Why? Well, green is the color of money. That’s the only way this makes sense.

A new book called “The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021” by authors Peter Baker and Susan Glasser reveals that Trump seriously asked his lawyers to look into the possibility of buying Greenland.

When they informed him that Denmark, the owners of Greenland, that they weren’t interested in selling, Trump reportedly “threw a hissy fit,” called the Danish PM “nasty” and canceled his trip to the country.

But there’s more to it.

Trump told national security advisor John Bolton that someone, a “really experienced businessman,” told him that they’d be able to secure Greenland. If it sounds delusional, that’s because it was. Trump went so far as to suggest that they take federal money from Puerto Rico to fund the purchase. And then, because it’s Trump, it got even weirder.

Trump outright “suggested trading Puerto Rico for Greenland.”

Perhaps there are some downfalls to having a delusional real estate developer in the driver’s seat of a powerful country like the United States. Including the risk of diplomatic incidents.

But at least that’s behind the country – until 2024, anyway.
